First established in 1901, this historic property in Clark, South Dakota has long been part of the region’s hunting heritage. Today, it begins a new chapter as an extension of the renowned Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, blending over a century of tradition with the elevated hospitality and attention to detail guests have come to expect.

Spanning approximately 6,000 acres of diverse South Dakota hunting ground, Oak Tree By Horse & Hunt offers an expansive and immersive outdoor experience rooted in tradition and scale. At the heart of the property sits a restored 15,000+ square foot lodge and classic farmhouse, featuring more than 19 private bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and accommodations for groups of up to 30.
For David Penn, owner of the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, the reopening of Oak Tree is deeply personal. With family roots in Clark, South Dakota, this expansion represents a return to the place where his passion for upland hunting first took shape—bringing Horse & Hunt’s legacy of tradition, land stewardship, and hospitality back to the central plains.
What truly sets Oak Tree apart is the scale and proximity of the land. Just steps from the lodge patio, hunters can walk directly into the fields—an experience that is both rare and unforgettable. Located approximately four hours from the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, Oak Tree By Horse & Hunt delivers the space, solitude, and authenticity of South Dakota hunting, paired with the elevated lodge experience Horse & Hunt is known for.
THE LODGE
The lodge is designed to be a true gathering place—where days in the field transition seamlessly into evenings by the fire. Guests will enjoy a thoughtfully appointed lounge, dining room, bar, cigar room, multiple private game rooms, six fireplaces, and a full commercial kitchen supporting elevated dining experiences. Outdoor decks and patios extend the lodge experience beyond the walls, while on-site dog boarding kennels provide added convenience for those traveling with their own dogs.
THE HUNTS
Hunting opportunities at Oak Tree By Horse & Hunt center around pheasant, waterfowl, spring snow goose, whitetail, along with access to ice fishing and seasonal experiences throughout the year. While guided hunts will be optional, the experience offered also includes self-guided, offering expansive private land and the freedom to hunt at your own pace. Throughout each stay, guests can expect exceptional meals, appetizers, and drinks served within the lodge.

The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club is proud to announce the revival of a well-known South Dakota hunting destination with the reopening of the former Oak Tree Lodge in Clark, South Dakota. Located roughly four hours from The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake, Minn., the property offers convenient access while delivering an authentic South Dakota hunting adventure. Vacant since 2019, the property has been carefully preserved and will be restored to pristine condition under the direction of the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club team.
